PASSING ON A FREEWAY INTO
A FASTER LANE

As a group, it can be difficult to pass a slow moving car on any road with two or more lanes of same-direction traffic.  This is especially true with moderate to heavy traffic.  Often there is not enough room for the entire group to get between cars in the faster lane.

The way to accomplish this is for the lead Road Captain to communicate with the rear Road Captain and request that he move to the desired lane so as to provide space in front of him for the group to move to.  Once the lane has been secured, the lead Road Captain will activate his signal to alert the group that he is going to change lanes.  After approximately 2/3 seconds he will move to the new lane followed by the motorcycle on his right. Next the third and forth motorcycles will move to the new lane and so on and so forth until the entire group has moved to the new lane.  A rider should not move to the new lane until the motorcycle in front of him is moving. This movement should look very smooth resembling a slithering snake.

The lead Road Captain may move back to the right lane after passing the slow car by a safe distance.  It is very important that the Road Captain maintain speed to make room for all the other riders after having passed the slow car.  The lead Road Captain may move back to the previous lane once the group has safely cleared the slow car.
