BODY WORLDS 3
Are you ready for something REALLY different? If I said even educational, would you run? The Body Worlds exhibit is back in Los Angeles at the California Science Center for a limited time. So what exactly is it? Well...in the most simple of terms, they've infused human bodies with plastic and created a way to display and show the inner workings of ourselves. There are full bodies as well as organs. No, it isn't bloody or gory, but it may be a bit unsettling for some. But I think it would also be fascinating! When the first show came many years ago, I was a bit turned off by it. Now I'm intrigued and curious. Please check out the website below for a much better description of what it's all about.
I've arranged for us to visit as a group block of 50. Our time to view the exhibit is 11:30am. Please RSVP ASAP. If we need more tickets, the earlier I know the better chance I have of getting more. Tickets are $16.50, seniors (62+) are $11.50. They also charge $6.00 per motorcycle to park. I will be collecting payment at, or before, the July 17 General Meeting. This is also your deadline for signing up. Don't miss out!

CALIFORNIA STATE HOG RALLY - PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Today is the deadline for the CA State HOG Rally's pre-registration. Not only will you save money if you pre-register...not only will you get great gifts (to include a Rally T-Shirt, patch and pin) but you'll also be counted towards the all important Chapter Challenge! We need you to pre-register and come join our Chapter in its defense of our 2007 Chapter Challenge victory in Fresno.

DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE
Yes, this ride definitely has a split personality! Our very own Ed L, Mr Simipop, has a grand adventure planned for today. The ride will start with a great route out to Santa Barbara. From there, things get interesting. The second part of this day is only recommended for the experienced riders. The route will head up Gibralter to the ridge above San Marcos Pass. I will tell you now, the road is a mess. It is full of potholes and winds and twists as it climbs up the grade. The good part is the holes are easy to avoid. While the road is torn up, it isn't loose or full of gravel. I call this 'hiking by bike.' So why go? The view is absolutely amazing! Once at the top, you can choose to come down Painted Cave Rd. for more tight twisties and a stop at Painted Cave State Park. Or you can opt for a more direct and improved road surface route down to San Marcos Pass. Either way will make for an outstanding day!
If you choose to join us only to Santa Barbara, you can enjoy lunch in any of the area restaurants...perhaps Padaro Grill? Those heading up to the ridge should bring along a picnic lunch. There's nothing better than enjoying a good meal with friends overlooking an outstanding view!

FOUR LAKES TOUR
Steve N. has created a great ride for us! The Four Lakes Tour will begin by "slabin it" out the 118, the 210 and the 30 to our first gas stop and rest. We will then climb to Big Bear for lunch. After our fill of mountain food, the tour circles Big Bear Lake, Lake Arrowhead, Lake Gregory and finally down the north side of the mountain to our final lake, Lake Silverton. Most of our time will be high in the mountains where it is cool and refreshing with the fresh scent of pine.
I am excited about this ride! We don't get up to Big Bear often enough.

DOWNED OFFICERS SUPPORT RIDE
Ted S. is hosting this great event for our Chapter. Come and join us for a great day in honoring those who serve us! We will meet at the dealership at 6:00 am and leave promptly at 6:15 am SHARP!!! We will then caravan down to the Panera Bakery at 12131 Ventura Blvd., in Studio City. Breakfast will be served by the bakery. At 7:00 a.m. we will all be escorted by Police Officials north up the 5 freeway to the Westfield Valencia Town Center in Santa Clarita.
Registration for this ride can be done at www.downedofficers.com. The deadline for registration is August 6th, but there will be on-site registration, as well as support ride t-shirts and other merchandise.
The poker run leaving from the Westfield Mall will be on your own to the Vendor area and lunch (which is included with each paid entry), live music, and law enforcement displays. So, don’t miss out and please join us!

MUSEUM RIDE
Bill B. has put together this great ride for us! We will ride over to PCH, across Sunset Blvd and take a short detour down Rodeo Drive to visit the Petersen Museum, Page Museum (La Brea Tar Pits), and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The Petersen Museum features a collection of automobiles including the "Cars of Hollywood" exhibit. With over 100,000 objects, LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States. It features some amazing works by Monett, Cézanne, Rembrandt, Picasso and others.

This year the CA State HOG Rally is in Victorville, September 18-20. So close to home! We encourage you ALL to attend! It'll be wonderful to repeat our impressive Chapter Challenge victory from last year's rally in Fresno. The state rallies are a great opportunity to travel new roads, see new sights and enjoy a road trip with friends.

The deadline for pre-registration is July 31, 2008. They take the tally of those pre-registered to count towards the Chapter Challenge! Besides...it'll save you some money and you'll get 'stuff' (like a shirt, pin, patch) that won't be available later.

PARKING LOT PRACTICE / OCTOBER
We're continuing our very popular Parking Lot Practice sessions. This is a wonderful opportunity to practice and improve your low speed motorcycle handling. You'll be amazed at how much more proficient you can become in just a morning's worth of practice!
We are very fortunate. We're going to hold our PLP at Moorpark College in parking lot D. Exit the 118 at Collins Rd and take a right on Campus Park Dr. The lot is up the hill on the right. Take a look at the map in the link below for directions. It's at the upper right hand corner of the map. Make sure you bring your DOT approved helmet, over the ankle boots, long pants, eye protection and gloves (all are required safety equipment).
In order to allow for maximum participation during the session, we must limit sign-ups to 36 riders. Don't worry, we'll offer other sessions during the year.

What overnight trips do you want to take? Which charity rides would you like our Chapter to officially support? I'll be taking nominations from our membership until 10/1. Please e-mail your ideas or submit them in writing using the Pathfinder form to the Activities Officer. It would be great if you want to follow through, be the Pathfinder, and plan your event. But you are welcome to just submit a nomination for consideration by the Activities Committee.

PALOMAR OBSERVATORY ONE-NIGHT OVERNIGHTER
A few of you may have heard me mention last year that I wanted to offer some one-night overnighters in 2008. My goodness! Where has the year gone? We got so busy, so fast. But I am going to sneak this one in.
For all of you who can't get away on a Friday. This trip is for you! For all of you who haven't taken a road trip on your bike. This trip is REALLY for you! It's time to give it a try for just one night.
We'll head down to Old Town Temecula on Saturday and then on to, or I should say up to, the Palomar Observatory. On the way to the hotel we can stop at the Mission San Antonio de Pala. For dinner, the hotel has a great Italian restaurant. If you crave a little night life, the Pala Casino is only 6 miles away.

HUNTER-LIGGETT ROAD TRIP
Bob P, our Director, has created a three day leisurely paced trip that will travel to an area that few of us have been to using lesser traveled roads. We will not do more than 220 miles on any day affording us time to do some touristy things as well as ride.
Here’s his current plan. Keep in mind, it is subject to change.
Friday, we’re going to take back roads up to Paso Robles and spend the night there.
On Saturday we will be visiting the historic Mission San Antonio de Padua, the Hearst hunting lodge and riding one of the most widely acclaimed motorcycle roads in California, Nacimiento-Fergusson. We will be crossing the Hunter Liggett Military Reservation. Doing so requires that you have your drivers license, registration and proof of insurance with you and available for inspection.
The Nacimiento-Fergusson Road, while narrow and windy in places, offers some of the most spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean in all of California. Let’s hope for clear weather. We will have lunch at Ragged Point shortly after reaching Hwy 1. The restaurant there is unique, overlooking the Pacific, with views up and down the coast. Saturday night there will be a group dinner at the Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill in Cambria. Bob claims they offer the best cioppino he’s ever tasted.
Our hotel in Cambria, on Moonstone Beach, offers the opportunity to wander the tide pools and overlooks before a departure for home on Sunday.
